Julius Erving

Basketball superstar and philanthropist Julius Erving with County Executive Thomas Gulotta and neighborhood youth in new PAL center. Build It, And They Will Come. The newest addition to the Police Activity League (PAL), was dedicated on November 18th in Roosevelt, Nassau County. The building was named the "Julius Erving Activity Center." On hand for the opening was 'Dr. J,' Mr. Julius Erving, the retired basketball great who is one of Roosevelt's favorite sons and who lent financial and promotional support to the center. "Look at this as a home and a place where a lot will be expected of you when you walk through the door," said Dr. J to the admiring crowd on ribbon-cutting day. The words of Julius Erving ring true to the heart of PAL. PAL doesn't compete with other youth organizations but fits into the community by providing additional activities. PAL provides rich experiences for our youth and fosters attitudes of character, citizenship and sportsmanship...a primary endeavor for a safer, happier future in our Nassau County.
